American Plugs for Sicily, Italy

image

When preparing for a trip, there are many details to put into place to ensure safe and smooth travels. One question I get often is about electrical adapters for Sicily. Different from “the old days,” today, your electronic devices–mainly laptops and cellphones (Please leave your hair dryer at home! Most places you’ll stay–at least with Experience Sicily–will have hairdryers for you.)–have a built-in ability to adapt and transform different levels of electrical currents. As a result, those old-fashioned transformers are not needed anymore. Today, you’ll need adapter plugs, like those shown. Sicily’s electricity operates under the “Southern Europe” region. So, the electrical plug adapters you’ll need are two prong or three prong (i.e., three is the one with a ground).

This photo that I took of my American Sicilian Italian electrical adapter collection shows you some examples of what they look like. You can pick these up at your local pharmacy or electronics supply store. A trick I learned from my husband is to purchase a portable power strip, like this one on the left that I purchased at an office supply store. I can plug in 4 different devices (Note the USB inputs!) and use just one grounded adapter plug. It’s pretty useful for my laptop, cellphone, and camera battery re-charger. Power up!
