Palermo’s Sanctuary For Santa Rosalia

Behind this facade at the top of Palermo’s Mount Pellegrino is the cave where in 1624 a hunter had a vision from the medieval saint Rosalia. The Sanctuary of Saint Rosalie, or il Santuario di Santa Rosalia, is a fascinating beyond-the-ordinary visit for those traveling to Palermo. It is truly a pilgrimage to make your way up the winding road to arrive here. And once inside, you feel like you’ve entered a womb when you cross into the chapel dedicated to La Santuzza, a cave where the hermit’s bones (so they say) were found.
