Sicily’s Teatro Andromeda: On Top Of The World

Teatro Andromeda appears ancient, but in fact, it is contemporary. A theater and a sculpture, it sits 1000 meters above sea level, and when you are there, you feel like you are on top of the world. Built by native Sicilian sculptor Lorenzo Reina, the seating of the theater represents a constellation of stars. Reina created this magnificent performance space over 30 years, one stone at a time.

It exists on his organic farm, which is also a sculpture garden for his other works. Reina grew up as a shepherd, but always wanted to be a professional sculptor. When his father was dying, he, being the only son, pledged that he would take care of the family’s animals. Now, primarily a mule farm, Reina and his sons also cultivate some sheep (for dairy), fruits, and vegetables. He cites the energy of the farm and its inhabitants as his inspiration.
