That Hand Door Knocker

You’ll see this Hand of Fatima door knocker throughout Italy. I’ve admired them since my first visit to the peninsula in 1996. One I bought in an antique store in Cinque Terre in 1999 is now on my home’s front door in Sicily. The Hand of Fatima is an ancient talisman found throughout the Mediterranean and across cultures and spiritual practices. It is equivalent to the Hamsa, yet instead of protection from the evil eye as when the fingers and palm are facing up and out, when the fingers are pointing down like this and together, it is meant to call in abundance, prosperity, and blessings for the home. I look for them everywhere I go. This one I recently photographed in Castiglione di Sicilia.
