52 Reasons to Love Sicily | #51. Imaginative Ceramics

Throughout Sicily there are various ceramic centers that developed over the centuries around natural sources of clay. Of course, the raw material is one thing, but more significant, however, are the artists and painters that produce and imagine the remarkable designs and/or playful scenes found on plates, bowls, pinecones, heads of men and women, vases, soap dispensers, tiles, beads … you name it, there is a unique object made of terracotta in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Caltagirone, Sciacca, Patti, Burgio, Erice, Palermo, and Pantelleria that will inspire you. As I tell my clients, when you see something you love, buy it then and there. You won’t see the same serving dish again because each ceramic piece in Sicily is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind work of art.
