Sweet Smiles and Sweet Squash

Meet Chef Antonino Elia and his new friend from Caruso Bar-Pasticceria in Sambuca di Sicilia. They are holding cucuzza, a type of squash that is in season now. Now, these cucuzza are particular because the Caruso family cultivates them to make the sweet paste that they use in their pastries, specifically the Minni di Virgini (Breasts of the Virgin)–a breast-shaped delight.

Nino and I are preparing for Stirring Sicily East, a hands-on cooking and wine experience in September. It’s been sold out since January! We’ll be announcing details for September 2019’s Stirring Sicily West in the next days. For a preview, please visit Experiencesicily.com. We hope you’ll join us!
