One Ostrich, Two Ostrich

The corridor of the Ambulatory of the Big Game Hunt at the Roman Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina has been called a “map of the world,” by some scholars. Capped by two floor lunettes on either side, one representing Mauritania, a country in Africa, and the other India, the extraordinary mosaic scenes along the 60-meter-long hallway (197 feet) document hunting, fishing, and the moving of animals by Romans for Roman gladiatorial games.

We’ll be touring this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site on Day 5 of our September 2018 Stirring Sicily food and wine tour. Learn more about this itinerary and our May 2018 Myths & Mysteries tour (when we’ll visit this site on Day 5) at ExperienceSicily.com.
