Salt Jewelry

Jewelry-designer Daniela Neri created this unique necklace that recalls a Sicilian cart. Oh, I would have loved to buy this, but for now, I’ll settle for the two pairs of earrings she designed that I purchased. Daniela is a native of Trapani, and she takes the salt from the local salt flats and makes “coral” out of it–in other words, the beads that you see are not made of semi-precious stones, shells, coral, or glass, but of salt! She calls it “Coralli di Sale,” or Coral Salt, and its a combination of salt and resin that Daniela forms by hand into beads. She then combines the beads with other pieces to create unique jewelry.

  1. This necklace, with the designs and colors the artist used, makes me think of Navajo jewelry. It is very pretty. How creative of her to make the resin-salt mixture to make her beads and jewelry with! I’m glad you got some earrings. 🙂
