In her turn-of-the-20th-century memoir “By the Waters of Sicily,” Norma Lorimer wrote that on the first day of spring, Sicilian lovers and families headed to the seaside and countryside in their carts and on foot to gleefully enjoy their first post-winter picnic outside of the cities “about the sunny rocks like young kids.” Simply happy to be gathered together.
