Scraping the Sky: Teatro Andromeda

Scraping the sky of the Sicanian mountains, Teatro Andromeda is a modern sculpture created by artist and shepherd Lorenzo Reina. Although it feels ancient, the theater, which sits 1000 meters (3280 feet) above sea level, was built by Reina one stone at a time over the past 30 years. When you talk with the Lorenzo, he’ll tell you it’s still a work in progress. While visiting in September, I was invited to sing the beloved Sicilian folk song “Cu ti lu dissi” for my friends. Enjoy! (Tip: I’ll be singing this during the weekend at the NY Times Travel Show.)

This spring, during Myths & Mysteries of Sicily: As Above/So Below, our May 23-June 4 tour will spend and afternoon at Teatro Andromeda. Join us!
