A Genius Feat

If you are into art, architecture, and ceramics, Le Stanze al Genio (The Rooms to the Genius) is for you. This home-museum features a collection of majolica ceramic floor tiles sporting designs from Naples and Sicily that were produced from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century. You must make an appointment (request an English-speaking tour) to visit because one of the owners will personally take you through each room and explain in-detail the history, materials, and relationships between the various tile designs, like the ones pictured. Le Stanze al Genio is housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Torre Piraino in Palermo’s historic Kalsa district. You really must see for yourself the awesome feat that it was to conceive and execute this museum.
