The expansive ancient Roman estate of the Villa del Casale outside of Piazza Armerina was constructed between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. This scene of women athletes in the estate’s gymnasium is evidence that bikinis have existed for, well, a very long time! Known affectionately as “The Bikini Girls,” they, along with hundreds of other mosaics depicting magnificent mythological and pastoral scenes from the Roman era, have been unearthed only in the last 100 years or so.
It’s another of Sicily’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites not to be missed. So, on our 5th Day of September’s tour, we’ll be spending the morning here with our local guide. Come with me! Let’s experience Sicily together!
