“I am the light of the world. Who follows me will not wander in the darkness, but will have the light of life,” is the translation of the inscription (from the Gospel of John) framing the Christ Pantocrator, Byzantine-style gold mosaic art at the center of the alter of the breathtaking Cathedral of Cefalù, which is a magnificent example of Norman-Arab architecture commissioned by King Roger II and built between 1131 and 1240.
