The magnificent Cathedral at Monreale possesses walls covered with colorful mosaics depicting stories from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. This image pictured demonstrates the story of Genesis 2:22, “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” For the mostly illiterate worshipers in the 13th century when the cathedral was built, “reading” the pictures brought the stories they heard to life.
These mosaics are just exquisite, and the colors so vibrant. How wonderful that the story could be told in pictures!
