Vacation and Celebration

This week marks a week of “ferie” throughout Italy. Italians and Sicilians close-up shop in the cities and flock to the sea or mountains to meet-up with friends and family to enjoy vacation. For Sicilians who live outside of Sicily, it’s a time to return to Sicily for Ferragosto-related feasts in honor of their patron saint. The Ferragosto holiday is August 15, but it’s never just one day! The entire island hops with summer excitement for the days preceding and succeeding the Feast of the Assumption. This photo is from a beautiful swimming spot on Ustica island.

  1. Party! What fun Italians have! (…I say bleakly after a day in front of my computer at work 🙂

    1. Dana, I hear you! I posted this thinking, “Wow, what a dream to be in this spot today!” (as I sat at my desk in New York City). It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever spent time. I’ll never for get it.
