Taormina Mustsee: The Teatro Antico

Taormina is always bewitching. From the charming boutiques and cafes to the fabulous hotels and restaurants, it is the best European-style resort city in Sicily. Please don’t leave Sicily to go to the Amalfi Coast or Capri! Go to Taormina! It’s stunning. The views of Mount Etna will grab your attention along with the beautiful people strolling along the Corso Umberto. A couple of insider tips: When you peoplewatch here you are watching other tourists (Stay elsewhere to interact with Sicilians.). Swimming and snorkeling is best on a boat excursion (Isola Bella looks heavenly from afar, but really, it’s not a great beach.). And do not miss the Teatro Antico (pictured). It is an outstanding ancient amphitheater.

Even better is seeing a performance here. For example, on 16 August guitar virtuosos Francesco Buzzurro and Yamandu Costa will serenade the night. … I know. I know… Not to worry. Every season international artists take this stage. So when it’s safe, you can attend an event here too. And you’ll talk about it for years to come. I’m still talking about seeing Elton John here in 2003.
