Buona festa! It’s Ferragosto! This week marks “ferie” throughout Italy. Italians and Sicilians close up shop in the cities and flock to the sea or mountains to meet-up with friends and family to enjoy vacation. For Sicilians who live outside of Sicily, it’s a time to return to Sicily for Ferragosto-related feasts in honor of their patron saint. The Ferragosto holiday is August 15, but it’s never just one day! The entire island hops with summer excitement for the days preceding and succeeding the Feast of the Assumption. This photo is from Le Piscine at Mongerbino. It’s what I dream about when I think of vacation in Sicily.
