The Petals of Infiorata

On May 16-18 in Noto, they will be celebrating their annual “Infiorata di Noto.” It’s not the only town in Sicily that dedicates a street in its town to flower-petal art; however, Noto is world-famous for its annual May festival along via Nicolaci. This photo is a close-up (actually from Castelbuono’s festival which is in June each year), to give you an idea of what is involved in creating massive images using flower petals and various earthly-elements (i.e., dirt, sand, salt).

Later this week, I’ll post a “big picture” version of infiorata artwork. This is just to give you an idea of what’s involved in the preparation. I’ve never been to Noto during the festival–at least not yet! Hopefully next year!
