If you thought this pastry looked like a breast, you were right. It’s called a “minna di St. Aita” or Saint Agatha’s Breast, and during the Feast of Saint Agatha that takes place annually in these first days of February, these are eaten with fervor in the city of Catania in honor of its patron saint. The ricotta-filled pastry simulates breasts because Agatha’s breasts were ambulated as a punishment by the Roman governor who’s affections she refused. Throughout her imprisonment and torture, the beautiful young woman never relented, and for this reason she was martyred by Catania’s citizens, and ever since, has been highly venerated. #catania #sicily #experiencesicily #saintagatha #santagata #minnadisantagata #pastry #dolci #patronsaint #sicilia #siciliabedda #italy #italia #sicily_tourism #sicilytourism #sicilytravel #sicily_travel #ig_sicily #siciliaph #siciliafoto #fotosicilia #igerssicilia #instasicilia #ig_sicily #igfriends_sicilia #ig_catania #gf_italy
